Inviting reporters into the Governor's office at the State Capitol this afternoon, Governor Pat Quinn signed his first bill into law.
The measure will tighten enforcement of the Smoke Free Illinois Act by clarifying exemptions and enforcement components to existing law.
The measure was sponsored by Senate President John Cullerton [ to the Gov's left in the photo], Sen. Terry Link [ to the right of the Governor ] and Rep. Karen Yarbrough.
The Smoke Free Illinois Act went into effect on January 1, 2008, which made Illinois the 23rd state in the union to adopt a state-wide smoking ban.

Now that the fanfare has worn off, so is the ban itself in many small neighborhood bars. It's a joke. the only way to enforce is to have the American Lung association use all the money it's getting from the Robert J. Wood Foundation to hire an army of "Lung Police" or "Woodie Police"
